Pine Hill's Wellington Hotel Set for Grand Comeback After Years of Neglect
Thanks to the dedication of a caring group of community members, the restoration of the beloved yet dilapidated Wellington Hotel is underway in the hamlet of Pine Hill, NY. Once a staple of the historic Pine Hill community, the hotel has fallen into disrepair and near abandonment after years of disuse. Following a fundraising effort by a group of Pine Hill residents, the property was purchased in 2022 with the intent to restore the 11,000 sq ft hotel and improve the village's downtown landscape. We are excited to join the team to rehabilitate a once vibrant tourist destination and pillar of this quaint community.
In 1882, the Wellington Hotel (later known as the Ulster House Hotel) was built on the cornerstone property of Main Street in Pine Hill to accommodate vacationers traveling the Ulster and Delaware Railroad for the Catskill Mountains. An Italianate style building, the hotel was once considered the second largest hotel in the Catskills. Following the decline of the Catskill resort industry and the “Borscht Belt” in the late 60s, the hotel became vacant. Today, many of the details of the original building remain intact but require careful observation to preserve and reuse.
