S.T.E.A.M. GARDEN
COMPLETED
Thaler Reilly Wilson worked with the Central District Management Association on the adaptive reuse of the former St. Patrick’s Institute into a science, technology, engineering, arts and math (S.T.E.A.M.) business incubator. The former catholic school and convent dates back to 1905 and for many years was an important part of the Central Avenue neighborhood.
TRW provided an in-depth condition analysis report that outlined the building’s deficiencies and provided recommendations on possible new uses and required repairs. Next, a series of meetings and workshops were organized with project stakeholders to work out a program for the building. From these meetings, a conceptual plan was developed that include maker spaces, various types of office rental units, and classrooms.
The project includes the exterior restoration of the masonry and stone exterior, restoration of wood windows and doors, interior restoration, interior renovation, and the addition of an elevator.
